Jews, Christians and Muslims prayed together as regional Sufi leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bukhari was laid to rest in his home in Old City Jerusalem. On June 1 he passed away at the age of 61, after a long struggle with heart disease.

Israeli soldiers attacked a flotilla of aid-carrying ships early Monday in international waters off the coast of the Gaza Strip. Ten people were reportedly killed on board and twenty others wounded,when troops from the Israeli Defense Force raided the six-ship convoy. Dubbed the Freedom Flotilla, the convoy carried 700 passengers from thirty countries bringing 10,000 tons of humanitarian aid to the impoverished Palestinian city of Gaza.

If you are a single mother, or a victim of rape or domestic violence, chances are you will not show up on Arab television. Those topics are taboo even for channels like Al-Jazeera Arabic, except for occasional segments.

Two months after 9/11, I was at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York for the World Economic Forum summit that was moved there from Davos and I was talking with Rabbi Meir Lau, the Chief Rabbi of Israel, when a vaguely familiar diminutive woman walked over and held her hand out to the Rabbi.
