"Shooting Kabul." The title would have you thinking it's a war story, a story about terrorism and heartbreak. And while it is all of those things, it's also a children's book, a story about starting fresh with a hole in your heart, and in your family. Above all, "Shooting Kabul" is a story about a kid with a camera and a taste for peanut butter.

Red Cross Trains Taliban in First Aid

The International Committee of the Red Cross is in Afghanistan teaching the Taliban basic first aid and giving them medical equipment. The ICRC's situation report revealed that its workers assisted "over 100 Afghan security personnel, over 70 members of the armed opposition, taxi drivers involved in the transport of wounded people, first-aiders and its own staff" in April.

As we get into the second third of Ramadan, much change can be noticed in Kabul. Things have slowed down quite a bit; everyone is getting out of work around noon time, preparing to get ready for iftar and taraweeh after dinner.

Besides visiting family and friends in Kabul, there is a lot of work to be done at the center where I’m interning. The Center for Conflict and Peace Studies (CAPS) focuses mainly on security issues in Afghanistan and our work is best defined as think-tank-like.

Returning To Afghanistan After 15 Years

After 15 years I was finally able to come back to Kabul, Afghanistan on June 20. I only vividly remember our house in the Dedana district; our garden was so beautiful, full of luscious apple trees, a variety of vegetables including onions, tomatoes, and potatoes.

Munching is a good way to kill time, especially during a stopover for a
connecting flight. I scanned the passing travelers and employees while
struggling with the supersize pizza slice I had bought greedily moments
earlier.
