"Shooting Kabul." The title would have you thinking it's a war story, a story about terrorism and heartbreak. And while it is all of those things, it's also a children's book, a story about starting fresh with a hole in your heart, and in your family. Above all, "Shooting Kabul" is a story about a kid with a camera and a taste for peanut butter.

In response to a controversies over the construction of a mosque near Ground Zero and on Staten Island, Archbishop Timothy Dolan, on his official blog condemned Islamophobic prejudice. Archbishop Dolan is the head of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, which includes Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island.

I wept on Friday evening when I heard the news of the death of Coach John Wooden. I had seen him the day before at UCLA looking frail and tired after 99 good years—as long and rewarding a life as one could hope. Coach Wooden was ready for a good death, surrounded by family and friends, knowing that he would soon meet his beloved Nellie again, who had passed on some 25 years earlier.

Jews, Christians and Muslims prayed together as regional Sufi leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bukhari was laid to rest in his home in Old City Jerusalem. On June 1 he passed away at the age of 61, after a long struggle with heart disease.

On June 17, 2008, I turned 28. I also got to watch the Lakers get spanked in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, a 39-point shaming by the Boston Celtics. Nothing can more deeply wound a Lakers fan than to see his (my) team lose to the Celtics, let alone for the ninth time in the NBA finals, never mind by nearly 40 points in Boston.
