Nearly two dozen events later, more than 100 different volunteers have participated in Project FEED and over 9,000 meals have been distributed.

What makes an athlete great? Is it their natural born ability? Their determination? Their heart and drive to be the greatest? Their love of the game? How about all of the above plus one extra “it” factor.

Every Saturday from 8:30 - 10:00 volunteers from Lighthouse and other Oakland Mosques join to feed the needy at the Rainbow Recreation Center. The event, organized by Alice, is located at: 5800 International Blvd in Oakland. All are welcome!

On June 6, "Stop Islamization of America (SIOA)" hosted a rally in lower Manhattan to protest the planned construction of a mosque near Ground Zero. Several hundred protesters had gathered in Zuccotti Park to voice their opposition to the selected location of a proposed community and prayer center.

On the evening of July 1, 2010 Data Darbar was attacked by suicide bombers, killing dozens of people and injuring many more. The attack reminded me of my visit to the shrine during my trip to Lahore in 2009.

A Los Angeles jury convicted former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle of involuntary manslaughter Thursday. Hundreds of people convened in downtown Oakland to protest the verdict and remember Oscar Grant. the 22-year old was shot and killed by Mehserle New Year's Day 2009 at the Fruitvale BART station.
